10 Ted Lasso Characters Who Deserve Their Own Spinoff

Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso has a great cast, with many fully developed characters who could carry their own spinoff series.

In this modern age of high expectations looming over any product's existence, it is a rare blessing to get a show that delivers on all fronts with very little room for backlash. Step up, Ted Lasso. The show's third and final season satisfyingly wrapped up its storylines while simultaneously dangling possible threads for future spinoffs.

Ted Lasso spinoffs may never happen, but the options and material are there. Every single Ted Lasso character went through growth and progression to some extent. But while the likes of Rebecca, Jamie, and Ted had satisfying conclusions, there is still plenty of potential for many other characters to have more adventures and general exploration of themselves.

For everything Ted Lasso Season 3 got right, its treatment of Keeley Jones felt like it needed more resolution. There are various ways of exploring Keeley beyond her past relationships with Roy and Jamie, with her PR firm being a great example. In fact, Keeley's unlikely friendship with her colleague Barbara blossomed throughout the third season. It established Barbara as a hilarious yet fascinating character many would like to see more of.

Barbara started off as a strict potential who tried to distance herself from Keeley's cheer and attempts to befriend her. However, Keeley eventually wore Barbara down with her infectious personality, and they stuck together as KJPR became KBPR. Exploring Barbara and KBPR would deviate from Ted Lasso's core of football, but would still focus on the show's strengths of building character relationships and growth.

Dr Sharon Fieldstone left AFC Richmond at the end of the second season, and only made a handful of appearances throughout the third. However, with the show's closing montage showing her returning to Richmond to help the new manager, Roy, fans would love to see more of the doc.

Sharon was another Ted Lasso character who changed drastically due to Ted's infectious influence and "The Richmond Way." She learned how to admit her vulnerabilities to her patients in order to build a stronger rapport, and a spinoff would get to explore Sharon in her element.

"Trent Crimm, The Independent" became a recurring joke through the first two seasons of Ted Lasso, as the reporter loved to announce himself wherever he went. Trent went on his own personal journey throughout the show, even venturing into writing a book on Richmond in the final season, having been fired as a reporter. This saw him enter the inner circle at AFC Richmond and the Diamond Dogs.

Ted Lasso fans have been left wanting to read Trent's book "The Richmond Way," as it would undoubtedly serve as a fitting tribute to the show's three-season journey. The fact that Trent was once a feared but respected reporter implies that Trent would also have some interesting stories to tell in a prequel spinoff, not just through a retrospective on Ted's time at AFC Richmond.

"Beard After Hours" is one of Ted Lasso's lowest-rated episodes according to IMDb, but it was still refreshing in its approach. It focused solely on Coach Beard, a character who had always served as a hype man and number two to Ted, and just followed him around on a night out.

Beard has always been seen as a bizarre character, but still with unprecedented moments of wisdom and clarity. Beard decided to stay in the UK at the end of Ted Lasso, with Ted giving him his blessing. Beard married Jane, with a kid also on the way, as he slotted back into coaching at AFC Richmond alongside Roy and Nate. Beard still has much to give, even if his iconic partnership with Ted may never be equaled or recreated.

The pub Richmond fans Baz, Jeremy, and Paul became a staple of Ted Lasso, despite rarely leaving their watering hole, The Crown & Anchor. As with every other Ted Lasso character, the trio changed for the better, growing to love Ted and appreciate the team more by the end.

They ended Ted Lasso with their own shares in AFC Richmond, as did the pub's owner Mae. While this cemented their journey in a satisfying way, fans would still love to see more of the trio and Mae, especially in how their new relationship with the club could be explored.

Ted Lasso loved to throw up some hilarious and wholesome friendships, from Rebecca and Keeley to Ted and Beard, but one flew under the radar until the final season. Dani Rojas and Thierry Zoreaux's friendship took a shocking turn in the final season, with Rojas revealing a dark side in breaking the goalkeeper's nose on international duty.

However, they were able to move through the tension as Dani presented Zoreaux with a new protective mask. This helped him embrace his identity, as he changed his name back from Van Damme. The Mask of Zorro was a hilarious resolution, but ultimately left fans wanting to see more of Rojas and Zoreaux together.

In a stacked ensemble of characters who went through serious growth, Nathan Shelley went on the wildest roller coaster ride of all. From bumbling kit-man with no confidence, Nate rose through the ranks, betrayed Ted and Richmond, became the manager of West Ham, and then quickly redeemed himself, ending up back at Richmond.

Many fans struggled to reconnect with Nate after his petulance in Season 2, but Nate ultimately learned more about humility and how to be happy rather than being "the best." There is still plenty to explore with Nate the Great, and a spinoff could center on his relationship with Jade or even just his new perspective on the sport he loves so much.

Sam Obisanya was always the consistently wholesome character throughout Ted Lasso. The Nigerian sensation still went through his fair share of trials and tribulations, but through the love and support of his friends and family, he always emerged out the other side. Sam even got his satisfying ending, fulfilling his childhood dream of making the Nigerian national team.

However, with him now representing Nigeria and having his restaurant, some angles could persist as a spinoff show. Fans would love to see more of Sam's father, a potential relationship with Sam's head chef Simi, or his fierce feud with the spoiled billionaire Edwin Akufo. Sam is a popular character with many avenues to explore, the perfect recipe for any spinoff.

There are various potential spinoff avenues to explore with Keeley, but the most intriguing one involves her plans to establish a women's team for AFC Richmond. This was teased during the closing montage of various characters getting their storybook endings, as Keeley brought the idea to Rebecca.

This is easily the strongest candidate for a spinoff, as it would bring a new cast in terms of the players, while leaving the door open for other Ted Lasso characters to cameo. Keeley's role would likely not go beyond PR representation, but as Keeley and Rebecca were huge advocates for female power throughout Ted Lasso, their mere presence would set the stage for more talented women to step up.

Roy Kent will always be remembered for his hilarious showing of anger, and persistent cursing, but he did still go through an incredible personal journey throughout Ted Lasso. Roy ended the series as the new AFC Richmond manager and finally sought therapy from Dr. Sharon Fieldstone.

Roy finally learned to let others in and help him, and this new side, mixed with some of the old, would make an entertaining main character in itself. A Roy spinoff would have to focus on AFC Richmond again unless it was a prequel looking at the early days of his storied playing career. The legend of Roy Kent was often spoken about more than it was shown, and fans would love to see it for themselves.
